Judge Susan Carbon to Head the Office on Violence Against Women
New Hampshire Judge Susan Carbon has been a well known champion for survivors of domestic and sexual violence for years. Now she will take on a major leadership role on the national level. On February 11th the U.S. Senate confirmed Carbon as the next Director of the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) in the U.S. Department of Justice.
Susan Carbon, first appointed to the bench in 1991, has been a Supervisory Judge of the New Hampshire Judicial Branch Family Division since 1996. She is a member of the Governor's Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence and, until recently, chaired New Hampshire's Domestic Violence Fatality Review Committee.
“Judge Carbon has been a national leader in efforts to develop effective, comprehensive responses to domestic and sexual violence,” said Coalition Executive Director Grace Mattern. “She is a role model known for judicial responses that support victims and hold perpetrators accountable.”
The Coalition congratulates Judge Carbon; we know she will continue to do a wonderful job in Washington D.C.
